"Barriers to Entry" Continues through July at Moab Art Works Brian Parkin's new exhibition of gate photographs “Barriers to Entry” opened on Friday June 6th. For this project Parkin used traditional photographic techniques capturing images on film and making color enlargements on Ilfochrome media. All images were made locally in the past three months, locations included industrial areas, ranches and residences. "The series of gate photographs "Barriers to Entry" is my first extended project since "Recent Developments" which premiered in June 2006. Once again my interest lies in the significant presence of humans in the landscape. This time I am more focused on division - here from there, us from them, privileged to enter or not. The more I have explored the Moab area looking for gates, the more I have discovered things about gates. They have a front and a back. They can be locked or not - or have a lock but not be locked. They are entrances, exits and barriers. They are used and not used. They are openings in the barriers that divide our common inheritance - land."
